Quite possibly you have dreamed of a winter wedding full of snow, but if you live in many areas of the world, you know that no matter what date in the winter you schedule your wedding for, Mother Nature cannot guarantee that it will be a white wedding. However, there are many places in the world in which you can travel to for a snow filled wedding day. Destination weddings aren't only reserved for tropical locations and warmer climates - you could have a destination winter wedding too.

If you would like to say within America, there are plenty of ski and snow resort destinations and lodges. Most of them have wedding packages, group rates for your guests, and can "guarantee" snow for your big day - even if it is manmade. Imagine how fun and romantic it could be to have your reception in a log cabin setting, with a roaring fire going, sipping champagne, red wine or hot apple cider. After your wedding your guests can enjoy skiing, snow tubing, snowboarding, ice skating or sleigh riding. You can look for resorts in areas such as New England, the Adirondacks in New York, Lake Tahoe, Colorado, Alaska and Utah.

If you are located outside of the United States or if you're the adventurous type, how about not only traveling to a snow filled location but also a unique wedding destination? In Europe, Canada and even the United States, there are "Ice Hotels" and snow igloo hotels in which you can get married in a venue completely made of ice or snow. These hotels give an almost crystal-like atmosphere, reflecting light and are often filled with unique one of a kind works of art by artists. Locations such as the ICE Hotel in Sweden, Igloo Village in Finland, Hôtel de Glace in Canada and Chena Hot Springs in Alaska will provide the romantic and unique wedding location you may be searching for. Many of these locations also are the in area where you can view the Northern Lights, which is a once in a lifetime opportunity for some people and will provide both you and your guests a memorable experience.

Of course, if you are planning a winter wedding near or far, do not forget to give your guests a winter wedding favor to commemorate your wedding. Some great ideas are snowflake bottle openers, snow globes, hot coca packets, picture frames, or crystal items. These will all be appreciated by your guests to remember such a wonderful event.

You can be a snow princess at your winter wedding. It is simply a matter of which decorations you choose to create your winter wonderland.

Begin with a white horse and carriage for your arrival instead of a limo. It will feel like a fairytale. Reminds you of a very popular Disney princess named Cinderella, doesn’t it?

Consider the colors royal blue, deep red, or forest green for your bridesmaid dresses.

Silver and white is a beautiful color combination for pew bows at a winter wedding.

Do you want a true winter wedding? Let your flower girl scatter snowflakes instead of flowers. You can either purchase small plastic snowflakes or create your own with paper or poster board and some glitter! This is such a creative idea! Your wedding will definitely stand out with this simple wedding decoration.

Isn’t the harp is a beautiful instrument? Consider having a harpist play before and during your ceremony; this will encourage the warm winter theme.

Have you thought of having your reception in a quaint cottage or a log cabin with a fireplace? My sister did this for her winter wedding. A location like this will definitely add charm to your reception!

Offer hot apple cider to your guests. It is a popular holiday beverage. Apple cider truly makes winter complete!

Can you imagine you and your new husband arriving at the reception-walking into a huge tent lighted by candles and numerous strings of white lights? Decorate the backs of the table chairs with large black or red velvet bows. This will compliment the lights. Consider laying out candy canes on the table tops if you are having a December wedding.

Do you want to give unique favors? If you are having a Christmastime wedding, give out ornaments. Here is my favorite idea: A holiday cookie cutter with a cookie recipe attached that says, “Truly cut for each other” along with your names and your wedding date.

Winter Wedding Outerwear

Winter wedding is a great themes and ideas for your wedding.

Winter weddings can be great. They are cozy and romantic, and often very elegant. They also tend to be very cold! Whether you are the bride or a guest, you will want to find beautiful outerwear to wear to the wedding.

Often, we get so wrapped up in the rest of the wedding outfit that more practical things like coats, wraps, and cover-ups get forgotten. This can be as true for the bride as it is for the female guests. It is usually not an issue for the groom and the male guests, first of all because they will be wearing suit jackets, and secondly because most men have some sort of dark wool topcoat already hanging in their closet. Outerwear is not so easy, though, for most women, because the parka that you might throw on to go to the mall or the trench coat you wear to work would look out of place with a formal dress.

To complete your look, you want to make certain that your outerwear coordinates with the rest of your ensemble. If you are planning to wear a strapless or sleeveless dress, you will also want to think about a wrap that you can wear indoors during the reception, as you may be chilly. Actually, that goes for summer weddings too, as they are often heavily air conditioned. Don't just grab an old cardigan on your way out the door - think elegance!

Fur is always a fabulous option for winter, whether you prefer real or faux. If you like genuine fur but find it to be out of your price range, check out the vintage and resale shops in your area. You can often find great pieces, especially wraps, at very reasonable prices. If you are shopping in the summer, be sure to talk to the store manager, because they may have their winter pieces in storage during the warmer months, but they will bring them out for you once they see that you are interested in buying.

For outerwear, look for luxurious pieces like velvet capes or full length fur coats. A dressy cloth coat could also work for a guest, especially if you jazz it up with a pretty brooch or pin. Sometimes you see evening coats in festive fabrics like satin, which would be gorgeous as well. The bride will want to find a garment that can drape over the fullness of her gown, which is why most will choose a long flowing cape or something short like a fur wrap.

Ideally, any piece that you are planning to wear during the reception will have some sort of fastener to keep it in place. Certainly, you can wear something like a pashmina which just drapes over the shoulders, but you may spend half of the evening fussing with it, which gets annoying. If your wrap is long enough, you can knot the ends behind your back and let the tails flow behind you. This works very well with softer fabrics like chiffon. One beautiful look is to have the edges of the wrap beaded with crystals to match the bride's crystal bridal jewelry. It looks elegant, and the weight of the crystals helps the wrap to stay in place.

For a fur wrap, a great idea is to secure it with a wide satin bow. Choose a ribbon that either blends in with the wrap, or one that pulls in a color from your dress. If you do not care for a bow, you can use a large rhinestone brooch, which ties in wonderfully with crystal bridal jewelry. For brides who prefer to let their jewelry speak and to keep their wrap simple, a hook and eye can always been hidden within the wrap as a fastener.

The right accessories will always make a good outfit great. This is true whether you are the bride, the mother of the bride, or merely a guest at a wedding. Elegant outerwear is the perfect finishing touch for a winter wedding.
